  SideKick by Ocean Kayak

SideKick by Ocean Kayak

The stable SideKick sit-on-top kayak is designed especially for an adult and a small child (or pet), with flexible seating options and an upswept bow for a drier, more enjoyable ride. It can easily be paddled solo.  This kayak is 12’ 4.5”/ 3.8 m long and weighs 52 lbs / 23.6 kg.  It has a maximum capacity of 300-350 lbs / 136.1 - 158.8 kg.  Your package includes a backrest and paddle. Sit-on-tops have similar hull shapes to their traditional counterparts, but instead of sitting inside the kayak, you sit in a molded-in depression on top. This kayak is made from tough, roto-molded plastic. Sit-on-tops share many benefits with traditional sit-insides, but often are easier to use and less expensive.

Sit-on-tops have many advantages over sit-insides, oneSideKick by Ocean Kayak of which is comfort. Paddlers with large body types, long legs, or limited flexibility feel less confined paddling a sit-on-top. One of the biggest benefits, though, is the self-rescue. Because sit-on-tops have an open deck rather than an enclosed one, there is no risk of being trapped in the boat if it tips over-no need to practice rolls or wet exits. That really appeals to new paddlers, and people who don't plan to take their kayaks out on expeditions.

'The Red Maple’ by A. Y. Jackson (Group of Seven)

The Red Maple

A.Y. Jackson is the man often regarded as the leading advocate for the Group of Seven.  Born in Montreal, Jackson was forced to earn a living at an early age when his father abandoned the family of six children. A.Y. went to work as an office boy for a lithograph company, where he received his earliest training.  In 1905, at the age of 23, he worked his way to Europe on a cattle boat, and then back to Chicago where he worked in a commercial art firm. By 1907, he had saved enough money to return to France to study Impressionism. There, Jackson decided to become a professional painter.  A.Y. Jackson's works and personality were immensely popular. He was direct and easy to understand, both in his painting and as a person. He was an outward looking artist, whose main concern was to record the landscape before him and reveal Canada to Canadians.
